STANDARD TWO
Instructional Leadership
Principals set high standards for the professional practice of 21st century instruction and assessment that result in a no-nonsense accountable environment. The school executive must be knowledgeable of best instructional and school practices and must use this knowledge to cause the creation of collaborative structures within the school for the design of highly engaging schoolwork for students, the on-going peer review of this work, and the sharing of this work throughout the professional community.

East Clayton Elementary has a master schedule that allows for grade level PLCs weekly and Extended PLCs once a month. Weekly meetings were facilitated by teachers and minutes were kept in their grade level PLC Google folder for Admin review. The extended PLC was facilitated by the Principal with the entire Admin Team present. After the school closure for COVID 19, the Admin team divided the grades and we were assigned PLCs to facilitate. I was given the pleasure of working with 4th, 5th and Teacher Assistants. The document attached reflects the second meeting of the 4th and 5th grade teams after the closure. My role was to provide the Admin Updates decided upon by the Admin Team during our last meeting and answer questions they may have. During these meetings each grade level was given the task of revisiting the standards to assess what had been taught and what needed to be taught. After those discussions, plans were made for the next week of online instruction. Teams were also asked to meet with grade level PLCs above and below their grade in vertically aligned meetings for the purpose of determining the "Need to Knows" for the next grade. Being a part of the PLC during these critical discussions allowed me the opportunity to dig deeper into the curriculum and learn from these hardworking teachers.

The creation of a master schedule for a school allows for rigorous instruction and aligns student learning with the school improvement plan. The master schedule for East Clayton was developed to give grade levels common planning time for data analysis, curriculum management, instructional improvement and staff development. During my residency I was able to give input on the implementation of the master schedule and changes made to the schedule on days it needed to be altered.
